Television: Indio

Everyone born and raised in the Philippines know a little something about the Spanish era of the country. We know that we had a hero, Lapu-Lapu, who fended off a team of Spaniards led by Ferdinand Magellan; and that that did nothing to deter the eventual colonization of the Philippines. But how did the Spaniards manage to take us over? How did they make us forget our own culture, tradition and religion?

School barely touches upon the subject of who we were before the Spaniards came; but in 2013, GMA-7 will brings about a fantastical new epic that will color in the missing pages of our history with Indio.

From the creative mind of Suzette Doctolero and the deft hands of director Dondon Santos, Indio sets out to continue the historical fiction genre started by Amaya. Hopefully, Indio will also succeed (like its predecessor) in pushing Filipinos into learning more about our culture, and our history.

Indio will premiere next month, in January, as the opening salvo of the network. In the meantime, let’s have a look at the teaser for GMA’s biggest project yet:

The full trailer for Indio will accompany a couple of this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival entries–and having already seen it, let me tell you, it is awesome
